Zimbabwe Govt Speaks On Cain Mathema’s “Death”

He Is As Fit As A Fiddle: Govt Speaks On Cain Mathema’s “Death”

The government has dismissed reports of the alleged death of Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Cain Ginyilitshe Mathema. The 74-year-old Minister has been trending on social media platforms after some people claimed that he had died from Covid-19 complications.

However, according to the government, the reports of the Ministers’s death are greatly exaggerated. The Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Taungana Ndoro robustly denied the reports.

In an interview with online publication Cite, Ndoro said that his boss is quite fit although he conceded that Mathema has not been feeling well of late. He told the publication,

“It’s not true, he’s fit as a fiddle.”

“We have not seen him yet. As he had been not feeling well.”

Ndoro refused to speak on what Minister Mathema is suffering from.

“That confirmation as to whether he has Covid-19 can only come from their Doctor as there is the Doctor and Patient Confidentiality to say whether one has Covid-19, Hypertension or AIDS.”

However, Mathema is reported to be in critical condition battling Covid-19. Online publication, ZimLive recently reported that Mathema was airlifted to Harare from Bulawayo after his health deteriorated.

Before his transfer to Harare, the Minister had been admitted at the United Bulawayo Hospitals’ refurbished Covid-19 facility in mid-August. He is now admitted at Arundel Mediclinic.

Sources who spoke to the publication said,

“He had excessive fluids in his lungs and was getting progressively worse. I understand some kind of surgical procedure has been performed. He’s not in a good shape, but he’s battling.”
