Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the esteemed founder of the Crown Gospel Awards and a beloved Ukhozi FM presenter, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 50. Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, confirmed her death in a statement, revealing that she died in the early hours at Parklands Hospital.
“We are grateful for all the prayers, love, and support we received throughout her illness. The family would appreciate privacy as we navigate through this challenging time,” the statement read.
Zanele’s health struggles became public on April 21 when she fell ill during her radio show, Eshilo, and was unable to finish the broadcast due to issues with her voice. Her colleague, Thokozani MaMkhize Ndlovu, stepped in to complete the show.
Following her hospitalization, Zanele’s daughter, Nonjabulo, disclosed to TshisaLIVE that her mother had undergone minor surgery to address shortness of breath. Later, Bishop Mpendulo revealed that Zanele had been diagnosed with lung cancer, a battle she fought bravely until her passing.
Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was a respected figure in the South African entertainment and religious communities, known for her vibrant personality and significant contributions to gospel music and radio. Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family, colleagues, and fans.
