When Isibaya ground to a halt, many of its viewers were left dejected after 8 years of watching the show they felt betrayed as M-Net decided to replace it with Diep City.
Diep City was created by the award-winning creator and director of popular drama Lockdown, Mandla N of Black Brain Productions. The story revolves around the trials, tribulations and exploits of Nokuthula “Nox” Jele, a small-time burglar and hustler played by former Scandal! actress Nozuko Ncayiyane.
Isibaya’s attempt to scout for votes ahead of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) was met with mixed emotions as fans demanded its return citing a poor storyline from Diep City.
People reacted differently to this.
My 8:30 pm.slot remains empty till the return of Somahashi and crew. I fail to connect with your Dipecity storyline. Always pain no solution. Stopped watching it. Bring back Isibaya.

It is clear people are not interested in the new show and demand the return of their all-time favourite.
In a statement at the time of ending the show, the channel director for local entertainment channels at M-Net, Nomsa Philiso, said, “It’s always sad when a show that was popular and loved ends, as is the case with Isibaya.
“However, times change and television is about adopting and adapting. As Mzansi Magic, we are thrilled about the new partnership with Black Brain Productions. They will be bringing in fresh content that is innovative and captivating.”
