Masvingo residents have taken their protests against poor service delivery to the next level after they went and dumped raw sewage at the council offices.
According to the Masvingo Residents Forum, a group of 20 residents who are fed up with the poor service delivery decided to show their dissatisfaction by dumping raw sewage inside the premises of the Masvingo City Council.
The Masvingo Residents Forum shared a video showing one of the residents dumping a bucket of the raw sewage at the offices. This did not go down well with a security guard at the complex who seems to have been caught off-guard and only sprung to action after the sewage had been dumped.
Below is a video of the resident dumping the sewage:
The Masvingo Residents are up in arms against the Council over its failure to manage the city’s sewage system. The city’s main sewer line upgrade is yet to be completed more than 10 years after the project started.
This has resulted in frequent sewerage blockages which the council allegedly takes days to attend to.
Brighton Ramusi who was leading the protests against the council’s inept handling of the sewage system told online publication New Zimbabwe,
“We are asking for accountability, for proof that it is indeed not misuse of funds and resources that has gotten us to the extremely bad situation that we find ourselves in as a city.
“There is growing belief that council management is misusing funds and resources resulting in the worsening of poor service delivery.
“This is not a fight against council; it’s an ask for what it is due only,”
However, two of the protesters, Tamutswa Chikonyora and Margaret Chidhimba got arrested after handing a petition to the city council authorities.
