A Mwenezi woman was left shattered and heartbroken after her ex-husband produced nine birth certificates of his other children from different marriages during a maintenance court hearing.
During maintenance hearings, spouses especial men often come up with all sort of stories so that they avoid paying more money for maintenance.
One such example is Harare Businessman Philip Chiyangwa who sensationally claimed in court that he fathered 50 children whom he pays maintenance for.
Unlike Philip Chiyangwa who could not prove before the court that he actually fathered 50 children, Mathew Gwenhure produced the ‘V11s’ before the court.
iAfrica24 established from Masvingo based publication The Mirror, that Mathew Gwenhure a teacher at Budirirai School in Mwenezi produced nine birth certificates for the other children he fathered in a bid to justify a ZWL$1000 maintenance offer for his three kids.
Dorcas Mapindu who approached the Magistrates court seeking a better maintenance offer of ZWL$6 000 from Mathew was left in shock and she broke down in tears before Resident Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa.
Dorcas knew that her ex-husband had five other children from two previous marriages but when she learned that Gwenhure had married another woman and had four children she was heartbroken beyond words.
She no choice but to settle for the paltry ZWL$1000 maintenance fee for her three children that Gwenhure had offered as there was no other way to convince the court to give in to her demand.
Gwenhure told the court that he could not afford the ZWL$6000 Dorcas wanted since he earned ZWL$12000 and had three wives.
Resident Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa granted Mapindu RTGS$1 800 maintenance.
