City of Cape Town: Fire Fighter Learnership Programme 2025

The City of Cape Town is inviting applications for its Cadet Fire Fighter Learnership Skills Program 2025, offering an opportunity for aspiring fire fighters to gain essential training and experience in fire and rescue services.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred).
• 18 years or older.
• No fear of confined spaces or heights (must pass claustrophobia and acrophobia tests).
• Medically and physically fit (must pass a City medical evaluation and compulsory drug test).
• Ability to work in a team and handle stressful situations.
• No criminal record (fingerprints/ID numbers will be checked; no other clearances accepted).

Compulsory Fitness Test for Shortlisted Candidates:

• Reach test: 1.9 m.
• 2.4 km run: 11 minutes (males), 13 minutes (females).
• Push-ups: 30 in 60 seconds.
• Sit-ups: 30 in 60 seconds.
• Dead load carry: 2 x 25 kg drums over 100 m.

Additional Assessments:
Shortlisted candidates must pass a written assessment, an interview, and a City medical evaluation, including a drug test.

Special Conditions:

• Must reside within the City of Cape Town Municipal Area.
• No guarantee of permanent employment upon program completion.
• Required to wear a uniform and protective clothing.
• Successful completion of the program, including Firefighter 1 (NFPA 1001), Hazmat Awareness (NFPA 1072), Hazmat Operations (NFPA 1072), and First Aid Level 3 courses, is required for permanent appointment as a Learner Fire Fighter.
