Bank sells ailing Sophie Ndaba’s posh Joburg home
### Sophie Ndaba Loses Johannesburg Home Over Unpaid Bond
Well-known South African actress **Sophie Ndaba**, who has been battling diabetes for several years, recently lost her posh home in Johannesburg after struggling to keep up with her bond payments. The home, which she bought for over **R2.2 million** in 2016, was sold by **Mercantile Bank** after Ndaba fell behind on her monthly instalments.
This difficult situation was revealed when the **Johannesburg High Court** granted judgment against the actress a fortnight ago.
The bank’s claim against Ndaba amounted to **R1 million**, a shortfall from the proceeds of the sale of her home. As a result, the bank may pursue her other assets to recover the outstanding amount.
### Legal Proceedings
Court documents indicate that Ndaba, through her company **Sophla Trading**, secured a **R2.2 million** home loan in September 2016. She was required to make monthly payments of **R22,347** over 240 months. However, by **February 2019**, Ndaba had fallen **R80,000** into arrears, leading the bank to take legal action.
After multiple warnings and attempts to resolve the matter, **Mercantile Bank** cancelled the agreement on **March 5, 2020**, and initiated legal proceedings to sell the house. The final judgment, delivered by **Judge Senyatsi** on **September 7**, ordered Ndaba and her company to repay the **R1,089,588.08** balance.
### A Continuing Struggle
As Ndaba continues to face financial challenges, Mercantile Bank may pursue additional assets to cover the shortfall. Despite the unfortunate loss of her home, the actress has remained silent, declining to respond to media inquiries regarding the judgment.
