SDC Learnership Programme 2025 for Unemployed South Africans

The Skills Development Corporation (SDC) is inviting unemployed South Africans with Grade 11 or 12 qualifications, who are not currently studying, to apply for its 2025 Learnership Programme. This initiative offers a Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) and other National Certificate qualifications, providing a pathway to skill development and career opportunities.

Learners will receive an estimated monthly stipend of R5000 during the 12-month programme. The programme aligns with B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) objectives, supporting businesses in funding certified learnerships for unemployed youth or their workforce.

Learnerships Offered by SDC

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the SDC Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • South African Citizen: Must hold a valid South African ID.
  • B-BBEE Black Person: African, Indian, or Coloured as per B-BBEE definitions.
  • Age: Between 18 and 28 years old.
  • Education: Minimum of Grade 11 or 12 (Matric) qualification.
  • Unemployed: Not currently studying or employed.
  • Availability: Able to commit to a 12-month learnership, including mandatory practical training.
  • Disability Status: Open to both abled and disabled applicants. Applicants with disabilities must provide a valid medical certificate confirming a long-term or recurring physical or mental impairment, as defined by the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998.

  1. Join the Learner Sourcing Pool:
  • Submit your details online via the official SDC website: SDC Student Application Process.
  • Required documents include:
    • Updated CV.
    • Certified copy of South African ID (not older than 3 months).
    • Certified copy of Grade 11 or 12 certificate (not older than 3 months).
    • For applicants with disabilities, a valid medical certificate confirming the disability.
  1. Validation Process:
  • SDC validates submitted documents and assesses eligibility.
  • If approved, applicants are added to the learner sourcing database and contacted when a suitable learnership opportunity arises.
  1. Submission of Original Documents:
  • Applicants must submit original documents in person at the SDC Campus in Johannesburg or Cape Town:
    • Abled Learners: Mondays, 8 AM – 12 PM.
    • Disabled Learners: Monday to Friday, 8 AM – 12 PM.
  • Documents are subject to further validation.
  1. Interview and Assessment:
  • Shortlisted candidates undergo an interview and assessment test.
  • Successful candidates are added to the validated applicant database.
  1. Learnership Allocation:
  • Applicants are matched to learnerships based on client B-BBEE Skills Development needs.
  • A waiting period may apply until allocation is confirmed.
  • Once allocated, learners sign a contract and begin the programme at an SDC campus.
