South Africa National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) Program 2023/24

The South Africa National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) Programme for the year 2023/2024 is now open for applications. The deadline for submission is on the 8th of August 2023.

The NARYSEC Programme was established in September 2010 by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development (DALRRD). It aims to address the high rates of unemployment among young people in rural areas. The programme is in line with the National Development Plan (Vision 2030) and the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) and has several objectives.

One of the primary objectives of the NARYSEC Programme is to recruit unemployed rural youth as part of the District Development Model and other government initiatives. These youth will work with provinces, the private sector, municipalities, and local traditional councils to contribute to the development of their communities.

Another objective is to build the capacity of rural youth through various skills development interventions. The programme aims to provide opportunities for skills development that are aligned with the specific needs and requirements of the job or enterprise development opportunities available in a specific province and district municipality.

The NARYSEC Programme also focuses on facilitating the transitioning of recruited youth to participate in economic activities. This includes providing support and guidance to help them successfully enter the workforce or start their own businesses.

Furthermore, the programme provides post-programme support to the youth who have exited the programme. This includes linking them to economic opportunities such as employment or further business development.

For the recruitment cycle of 2023/2024, the NARYSEC Programme will be accepting applications in August and October 2023. The skills development opportunities provided to the selected youth will be based on the identified exit opportunities in their respective provinces and district municipalities.

To be eligible for the programme, applicants must be unemployed rural youth between the ages of 18 and 35. They must be South African residents residing in a rural area and have a minimum qualification of grade 9. Youth with disabilities and females are encouraged to apply.

The NARYSEC Programme aims to recruit youth from all provinces in South Africa. The number of awards available varies by province. In Gauteng, 200 youth will be selected, while North West and Mpumalanga will each have 100 youth participating in the programme. Eastern Cape will have 200 youth, KwaZulu-Natal 142 youth, Northern Cape 20 youth, Western Cape 200 youth, Limpopo 100 youth, and Free State 75 youth.

To apply for the NARYSEC Programme, interested individuals should look for province-specific adverts in their targeted districts and local municipalities. Application forms will be available at these locations. Hardcopies of qualifications and any other relevant supporting documents must be submitted to the relevant district or local municipal office.

The deadline for all applications is the 8th of August 2023.

The NARYSEC Programme offers a valuable opportunity for unemployed rural youth in South Africa to develop their skills and contribute to the development of their communities. By equipping these young individuals with necessary skills and providing them with support, the programme aims to address the issue of unemployment and improve economic opportunities in rural areas. Interested youth are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this beneficial programme.
