SA Celebrities you didn’t know were Americans

As everyone probably knows by now, not everyone living full time in South Africa was born in South Africa, some were born in other countries but spent most of their childhood and adulthood living in the country.

Believe it or not, the same story above also applies to some of the individuals in the celebville nation of the country. They weren’t born in South Africa but rather, the United States Of America, check them out below:

01. Major League Djz

South African Major League are two DJs and production duo made up of twin brothers Banele and Bandile Mbere.

They were born in the United States of America, Boston, and moved back to South Africa after the apartheid era which was after 1994.

The Djz are known for their big name collaborations with many South African artists including Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick, Focalistic, Nadia Nakai, Kamo Mphela etc. 

The group gave us many smash hits including Slyza Tsotsi, Zulu Girls, Shoota Mogirl, 19-Tobetsa, Amanikiniki etc

02. Tshego

Tshegofatso Ketshabile famously known as Tshego, was born in the United States, Georgia, Atlanta, because his parents were Church Ministers while studying in the US.

He’s a successful singer, producer, and songwriter behind many hits including No Ties, Gardens, Hennessey, The Vibe among others. Tshego visited South Africa regularly from an age of 4 until he finally lived in Mafikeng full time in 2002. He’s a household name who has collaborated with major artists like Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Riky Rick, Kwesta, Thabsie, Tellaman amongst others. 

03. Da Les

Jonathan Leslie Mampe who goes by the stage name, Da Les, was born in Washington DC in 1985 to South African parents while they were studying in the States. He moved back to South Africa in 1993 when his parents returned home.

In 2007, him, Ishamel Morabe and Bongani Fassie formed the iconic group Jozi which gave us the popular album Muthaland Crunk, spawning hit anthems such as Gotta Keep It Going and We on Fire. The album won many South African awards including MAMAS and SAMAS.

As a solo rider he’s given us hits like Tippy Toes, Lifestyle, Real Stuff, Train Rides and many more.
