The dark truth about Konka Soweto

This concerning trend, which has gained widespread attention and continues to dominate social media discussions daily, is notably prevalent at Konka Soweto, a high-end club recognized as the most expensive in the country. The controversial practices occurring in this upscale establishment are being singled out for negatively impacting the lives of young women.

A YouTube video, featured on Tondani Netili’s channel, sheds light on the disturbing revelation that girls as young as 14 years old are increasingly relying on older men for financial support. The vlogger recounted a disconcerting incident during a taxi ride, where she overheard a conversation among young girls expressing concerns about their “blessers” not sending them money, with one girl specifically mentioning her desire to purchase expensive footwear.

The vlogger, visibly disturbed by the encounter, remarked, “When I was 14 years old, I was worried about my homework, I was worried sick that my phone doesn’t have enough memory to save Chris Brown’s pictures, and I was worried about my pocket money for the next day, not a blesser.”

Expressing deep concern for her younger sibling and the vulnerability of other youngsters, the vlogger emphasized that the trend of young girls having “blessers” is no longer a lighthearted affair but a distressing reality.

The term “blesser” refers to older wealthy men who use financial incentives to entice women, often referred to as “blessees,” who receive material gifts such as overseas trips, cars, and expensive accessories.

Recently, KwaZulu-Natal premier Senzo Mchunu and health MEC Sbongiseni Dhlomo declared a concerted effort to combat the influence of “blessers.” The campaign, driven by alarming statistics, revealed a significant number of teenage pregnancies in the region, indicating the concerning impact of blessers on young women’s lives. Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the premier, highlighted the urgency of addressing the issue as a response to the worrisome statistics in the area.
