During a press conference at the MDC T headquarters yesterday, the party’s new President Douglas Mwonzora said embattled former party leader Thokozani Khupe will eventually calm down, New Zimbabwe reports.
This after Khupe pulled a Trump and refused to acknowledge the outcome of the elections and said they were rigged before she fired fellow contestant Douglas Mwonzora from the party.
Addressing the press conference Mwonzora said he will give Khupe time to cool down:
I know that there were a lot of things that were said, but that was a result of anger and frustration and this comes with competition,
I think I must be a very frustrating opponent and I understand when my opponents get frustrated. That is to be expected, I expected people to get angry but I expect people to get over it.
So we have had to allow a period of cooling for Madam Vice President (Khupe) in particular. I know she will cool down, I know that she will come back and assume her responsibilitie
Meanwhile, Khupe who tested positive for COVID-19 said she will challenge Mwonzora’s disputed win as she said Vice Presidents are not appointed by elected. Mwonzora polled 883 votes against Khupe’s 118 votes at the court-sanctioned congress on Sunday.
