Ruvheneko Models The New National Dress And Poses A Question To Chamisa
The award-winning radio presenter, Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa is back in the headlines. Over the past weekend, Ruvheneko co-hosted the presentation of Zimbabwe’s new National Dress alongside Chief Koti.
The event was attended by many major political figures among other attendants. The honourable minister of youth Kirsty Coventry was among the many arrays of models that represented the different patterns of the new National Dress. In Ruvheneko‘s first social media post regarding the National Dress she wrote:
“Zimbabwe’s NATIONAL FABRIC
Sadly, Zimbabwe does not have a distinct National Dress that can be identified, let alone worn in today’s modern society.

For years we’ve attended events in Zambian, Nigerian and Ghanaian fabric, where the dress code is “Africa Attire” or “Traditional.” Kuita here ikoko? After a Nationwide process led by the Patron, the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, we now we have our own fabric.

Ruvheneko shared the post with a series of pictures of her in the yellow dress with the Zimbabwe bird repeatedly printed all over it. The presenter looked beautiful and we were all envious of the cloth. Ruvheneko went on to share the second post in reference to the National Dress. She also made a call upon Nelson Chamisa the leader of the opposition party MDC Alliance. Ruvheneko asked if he would embrace the National Dress too. In her post she wrote:
“The National Fabric has sparked so much debate. I expected no less because it is a National issue that strikes a chord in us all. My concern is less about how many people like the fabric, because in fairness, no matter what, nothing can please everyone. My worry is the acceptance of it as a part of our identity and the cultural inclusivity of the designs. Will Nelson Chamisa wear this, or has it become a party issue? Will all tribes wear this or are some seemingly more represented than others?
