ZBC would like to clarify the apparent confusion caused by social media circulation of an initial report regarding the opening of schools for the first term of the 2021 education calendar.
On Tuesday (December 29), ZBC news carried a report dismissing social media speculation over a claimed delay to the opening of schools and quoting officials in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
However, the government position changed Wednesday in response to the threat by the tropical storm Chalane as well as the spike in Covid-19 cases and the advent of a more contagious variant of the Coronavirus.
The changed position was confirmed in a statement Wednesday by Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary Mrs Tumisang Thabela.
She said opening of schools had consequently been deferred to a date which would be announced in due course.
However, the 2020 ZIMSEC O’ and A’ Level Examinations resume on the 5th of January 2021.
