Position Purpose
The Trainee Yard Official will undergo structured modular training to develop the competencies required to qualify and be certified as a Yard Official. The programme focusesV.2 focuses on preparing trainees to perform yard operations safely and efficiently, aligning with Transnet Freight Rail’s strategic goals and vision.
Position Outputs
As a Trainee Yard Official, you will:
- Complete Theoretical Training: Attend and successfully complete a theoretical training programme within the stipulated timeframe.
- Complete Practical Training: Participate in and pass a practical training programme within the required timeframe.
- Develop Operational Competency: Gain the ability to perform yard operations, operate assigned equipment, and take accountability for tasks by the end of the training period.
- Achieve Work Goals: Safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments in line with the training programme and the company’s strategies.
- Maintain Records: Keep comprehensive records (portfolio of evidence) of all theoretical and practical training for progression purposes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Requirement: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Psychological Screening: Must pass a battery test relevant to the role.
- Medical Fitness: Must pass job-specific medical tests, including vision and hearing assessments.
- Computer Literacy: Basic proficiency in computer use.
- Physical Fitness: Physically capable of performing job duties.
- Training Completion: Must successfully complete and pass both theoretical and practical training as a Yard Official.
