The funeral took place at Maubane Cemetery in Hammanskraal, just days after Gontse was found murdered near Majaneng bridge on October 15. Her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her.
The funeral service was a blend of grief and celebration as mourners remembered Gontseās bright personality and her love for dance, especially to bacardi music. Her grandfather, Kaiser Mokgohloa, poignantly reflected on her brief life, thanking everyone present for their support during such a difficult time.
Gontseās cousin, Karabo Lekalakala, described her as a āwonderful soulā cherished by many. āWe lost a daughter, sister, and cousin,ā Karabo shared, adding that Gontseās warm and loving nature would be forever remembered. Another cousin, Basetsana Morometsi, spoke about their close bond and praised Gontseās lively presence, saying, āYou owned the stage.ā
Friends took turns sharing memories of Gontse, with Khutso Mokase recalling her as āmajaivanaā for her deep passion for dance, while Minenhle Sithole fondly remembered her infectious laughter and love for various music genres.
Gontseās mother, Sinah Mokgohloa, openly shared her anguish, embodying the heartbreak of the family. Her manager, Kgothatso Lefifi from Spark Promos, described her as always āloving and happy,ā reflecting on her joyous energy.
Community members and neighbors also mourned Gontseās loss. Nadia Maubane, a neighbor, remembered her as a joyful and respectful young woman who brought happiness to those around her.
In a heartfelt gesture, Bishop Richard Ndlovu of the Barapedi Mmogo Apostolic Church danced as a tribute to Gontseās life, celebrating the happiness she radiated. Local political figures attended in solidarity, with EFF Ward 15 branch treasurer Thabiso Makou calling for justice, recognizing Gontseās promising influence within her community.
Gontse is survived by her mother, aunt, three sisters, one brother, and numerous other family members. Though her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, those who knew her will forever remember the joy and love she brought to their lives.
