Hundreds of people gathered to give farewell to Soul Jah Love as the hearse carrying his body passed through Harare streets and all of the people began singing, ‘Kana Ndafa’, a song he presumably wrote in anticipation of his death.
The much-loved artist was an inspiration to many ghetto youths and as such his farewell saw many people gathering against lockdown regulations limiting movement and number of mourners to 30.
Soul Jah love had thousands if not millions of followers who secretly and openly loved his music.
This is evident with how President Mnangagwa, representing the ruling party, ZANU PF, declared the gifted lyricist a provincial hero. A status, himself, born after independence has ever held.
Such an honour has received little if no resistance from both Zanu PF and the MDC’s.
People sang Kana Ndafa in solidarity and well understanding of his feelings, all but poured in his music.
