A 20-year-old young lady from the dormitory town of Chitungwiza was left dejected after she was gang-raped by two men travelling in an unregistered Toyota Wish.
iHarare established from a local online publication that the woman (who cannot be named) hitchhiked a ride on Tuesday last week and was gang-raped by two men who were in the car.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying after the sexual assault the victim was dumped at a car wash in St. Mary’s, Chitungwiza.
On 26 January at about 1500 hrs, a Chitungwiza woman (20) was raped by unknown two male adults after she had boarded an unregistered Toyota Wish in the suburb.
The victim was later dumped at a Car Wash in St. Mary’s, he said.
Cases of rape, robbery and sexual assault are on the rise as robbers are taking advantage of the bad transport situation as well as the dawn to dusk curfew currently in place.
Two weeks ago, a woman was raped in a maize field along Simon Mazorodze Road in full view of her 7-year-old son.
According to reports the woman and her son encountered transport problems along Simon Mazorodze road and decided to walk towards ZBC near Mbare and were attacked by an unknown man who threatened to kill the two if they called for help.
The woman was then raped once without protection and the assailant went away with US$20, a white dress, her cellphone and a packet of tomatoes.
The Police have warned members of the public and commuters to makes sure they travel during the day and not to board private vehicles.
