Among those in the dock, one was revealed to be the orchestrator of the operation, while another was the one who facilitated payment to the team after the job.
However, speculation arose from the rapper’s father, suggesting that the true mastermind might not have been among the apprehended individuals.
The accused individuals, Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande, face various charges, including murder, conspiracy, and possession of firearms and ammunition. Their origins span from different areas across South Africa.
Additional arrests were made in connection with attempted murders related to individuals present during the incident on Florida Road where AKA and his friend Tibz were fatally shot.
The legal proceedings have been scheduled for multiple dates due to the complexity of the case and the extensive bail verification process.
Despite progress in the investigation and arrests made, uncertainties persist. AKA’s father expressed skepticism regarding whether those in custody were the masterminds behind the crime.
He also highlighted the emotional toll on AKA’s daughter, Kairo, who struggles to comprehend the developments.
High-ranking officials such as Minister of Police Bheki Cele and provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi attended the court session.
However, they refrained from discussing the financial aspects of the hit, emphasizing that such details would unfold during the legal proceedings.
Efforts are underway for the extradition of two suspects held in eSwatini, with hopes for a smooth process to bring them to South Africa for trial.
