Samsung’s Budget Phone Focus: Galaxy A15 Leaked Renders and Details

With the recent unveiling of its flagship phones in August, Samsung is now turning its attention to budget-friendly options. Among them are the Galaxy A05 and Galaxy A05, both of which had their images and renders leaked. However, Samsung’s ambitions in the budget segment may extend further with the potential launch of the Galaxy A15, as suggested by a new leak.

Exclusive Galaxy A15 Renders: A Different Design Approach

TheTechOutlook has published exclusive renders of the Galaxy A15, revealing a notable departure from the typical design language seen in Samsung Galaxy smartphones. One of the most conspicuous changes is the A15’s flat frame, a departure from the usual rounded frame associated with Samsung. This alteration might affect the phone’s ergonomics and how comfortable it is to hold.

A Flat Design Trend for 2024?

Interestingly, this flat frame design could be a key feature adopted by Samsung for multiple smartphones in 2024, including the Galaxy S24 lineup. Reports indicate that all three models in the Galaxy S24 series may feature flat displays, which suggests the frame might undergo a similar treatment.

Unusual Frame Protrusion and Expected Dimensions

The Galaxy A15’s frame appears to have a slight protrusion where the power and volume buttons are situated. While this design element might not look particularly attractive in the renders, it remains to be seen how it will fare in reality, especially if it becomes a standard feature in multiple Galaxy smartphones in 2024.

Despite the flat frame, the A15 reportedly manages to maintain a thin profile at 8.4mm, slightly slimmer than its predecessor, the Galaxy A14, which measures 9.1mm in thickness. However, the width and length of the phone may differ, as it is rumored to sport a 6.4-inch display with an Infinity-U notch, unlike the 6.6-inch display found on the A14.

Limited Specifications Revealed

As of now, there is limited information available regarding the specifications of the Galaxy A15. It may be some time before additional details emerge, especially if Samsung follows its tradition of launching the A15 approximately a year after its predecessor, which would likely place the launch date in February 2024.

Samsung’s Collaboration with AMD: A Look at the Future of Exynos Processors

Two years ago, Samsung initiated a partnership with AMD with the goal of developing in-house GPUs for its Exynos processors. The Exynos 2200 was the first chip to incorporate an AMD RDNA2-based GPU, raising high expectations.

However, the chip’s performance fell short of these expectations. Now, Samsung is planning to extend the use of AMD GPUs to other Exynos chips in its lineup.

Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 with AMD GPUs

According to the tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), Samsung is set to equip its upcoming mid-range chips, the Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480, with AMD mRDNA-based GPUs. These processors are expected to be officially announced early next year and may debut in the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A15, respectively.

However, it’s advisable not to anticipate “overly high expectations” for the gaming performance of these GPUs in the upcoming Exynos chipsets.

Samsung’s Focus on ISP Improvements

Samsung’s primary focus for its future mid-range Exynos chips appears to be improving the Image Signal Processors (ISPs) rather than prioritizing powerful GPUs. Consequently, the gaming performance of the Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 may not set new standards.

Given the long-term nature of Samsung’s partnership with AMD, it has always been anticipated that AMD-based GPUs would eventually become the standard across the entire Exynos lineup.

Insight into Exynos 2400 Specifications

Samsung’s forthcoming flagship chipset, the Exynos 2400, is rumored to find its way into select Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models. It is reported to feature a 10-core CPU configuration, with one Cortex-X4 CPU core operating at 3.16GHz, two Cortex-A720 CPU cores at 2.9GHz, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores at 1.9GHz. The Exynos 2400 is expected to house an Xclipse 940 GPU with six Work Group Processors (WGPs).

Performance Comparison with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Initial information suggests that the Exynos 2400 may exhibit lower single-core CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while its multi-core performance falls within a similar range. Additionally, the GPU performance of the Exynos 2400 may not match that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, it’s important to approach these details with caution, as they are based on preliminary reports, and a definitive assessment should await the official release and testing of the chip.
