Latest On Thembinkosi Lorch’s Sentencing!
Thembinkosi Lorch, the prominent Orlando Pirates player, will have to wait for another month to learn his fate following his guilty verdict for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in June, as ruled by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
Lorch was found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend, Fundiswa Mathithibala. Mathithibala reported that an altercation erupted while she was visiting the ex-Chippa United player at his Midrand residence, culminating in Lorch’s violent behavior.
The Bafana Bafana star was arrested on September 7, 2020, and later released on R2,000 bail.
The sentencing proceedings for the Pirates midfielder, Lorch, have been rescheduled to September 4, 2023.
Unfortunately, the court could not proceed as planned due to Mr. Lorch and his defense not being adequately prepared with the pre-sentencing report. This was attributed to the accused being out of the country, preventing the completion of the process, according to NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, as quoted by Zijoma Lezinto.
Additionally, a major factor causing the postponement was the unavailability of electricity at the court.
During the last season, the star player featured in 16 games across all competitions for Orlando Pirates, contributing four goals in the process. His playing time with the Buccaneers in the previous campaign was hampered by injuries.
When Lorch was initially found guilty, Orlando Pirates conducted internal investigations into the matter. Subsequently, the club charged Lorch with serious misconduct after he admitted to the charges.
In response, Orlando Pirates imposed a monetary fine and mandated that Lorch attend anger management therapy.
Lorch duly attended therapy sessions with Dr. Nomsa Nkuna-Boikanyo, as part of his rehabilitation with the club’s endorsement. He completed the prescribed number of sessions and has not been involved in any similar violent incidents since then.
As a result, the club remains confident that anger management therapy was an appropriate corrective measure.
