‘Never too late’: Somizi returns to school, after dropping out in grade 9

South African Media Personality Somizi Mhlongo Embarks on a New Academic Journey

On Friday, the 13th of October, renowned South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo made a significant announcement on Instagram. He confirmed his decision to return to school, marking a remarkable step in his life’s journey.

Somizi, who had dropped out of school during grade nine, has made a commendable choice to further his education at the age of 50. He previously left school because he believed it would impede his pursuit of dreams and aspirations. However, he has now enrolled in a fashion design course, proving that it’s never too late to invest in one’s education.

“I have always believed in the value of education, even though, in my case, the opportunities to work at a very young age led me down a different path in terms of formal schooling. But quitting school at such an early stage didn’t prevent me from educating myself on subjects that later became integral to my professional life,” he shared with Sunday World.

Somizi Mhlongo, a second-generation entertainment star and the son of iconic actress Mary Twala and actor Ndaba Mhlongo, initiated his acting career at the tender age of 15 when he appeared in the 1987 film “Scavengers.” His fame skyrocketed in 1992 with his involvement in the musical drama “Sarafina!”

Taking to Instagram to confirm the news and share his inspiring journey, Somizi posted a screenshot of the article, emphasizing that it’s not a rumor. His message to followers was simple and motivating: “It’s not a rumor, it’s true. I hope you’re inspired that it’s never too late.”
