In a heart-wrenching incident that has left a community in sorrow, a devoted church pastor and his beloved wife tragically lost their lives while returning from a church service. The unfortunate event unfolded as the couple’s car was reportedly swept away by torrents of floodwater from the swollen Rivet Evoesyo in Enzueni Sub-County, Makueni County.
The pastor, identified as Joseph Mbalya, affiliated with the AIC Maumbo Church in Wote Town, was driving a Nissan Extrail with his wife when the relentless currents of River Evoesyo overpowered their vehicle, claiming their lives. Eyewitnesses, as reported by the Standard Digital newspaper, shared the distressing account of the couple’s car rolling down the flooded river, prompting desperate attempts from local residents to rescue them, ultimately proving futile.
The heart-wrenching incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with the pastor’s lifeless body recovered, while efforts persist to locate and retrieve the body of his wife. Eyewitnesses recall the harrowing screams echoing from the riverbank, underscoring the severity and suddenness of the calamity.
The Standard Newspaper quoted a witness who vividly recounted the tragedy, “I heard screams from the upper side of the river, and when I rushed there, I saw the car rolling down the river. It was an unfortunate encounter that we have retrieved the body of the pastor, as all attempts to get the accomplice’s body continue.”
The community mourns the untimely loss of a spiritual leader and his wife, grappling with the aftermath of a calamity that struck unexpectedly. As the recovery efforts persist, questions arise about the safety measures and preparedness for such natural disasters, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures in flood-prone regions.
The grieving congregation and community members unite in shared sorrow, remembering the pastor and his wife for their dedicated service and the tragic circumstances that cut short their journey together.
