Breaking news: Kenyan University Launches Degree in Witchcraft

In a groundbreaking move, the University of Machakos in Kenya is making history by launching a Witchcraft Degree, becoming the second institution globally to offer such a program.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that numerous students have already shown interest, and the university aims to tap into local expertise to make the course a success.

Emphasizing the rich indigenous knowledge within Machakos County, the university views this initiative as a crucial step in preserving historical and cultural wisdom. The Witchcraft Degree, set to commence in April 2021 under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, awaits approval from the University Education Board.

This four-year course will adopt a blended learning approach, featuring lecturers from various regions, including Kenya, Zanzibar, Haiti, and Mexico. With a residential setup, courses are scheduled at night, ensuring students can participate without concerns about COVID-19.

While specific course units remain undisclosed, sources reveal that students will have two attachments, connecting them with active and practicing witches in the Eastern African region. Graduates are expected to establish their private practices, addressing complex issues beyond the conventional realms of ‘nguvu za kiume, biashara, kazi, mke kutoroka na kushika mwizi.’

The announcement has sparked a range of reactions, with some dismissing it as a joke and others drawing parallels with unconventional courses like Organic Chemistry. The Board of Higher Education Loans has also approved funding for the Witchcraft Degree, assuring graduates that, owing to their unique skills, loan repayment will not be mandatory.

This groundbreaking endeavor by the University of Machakos has initiated discussions about the intersection of education, culture, and unconventional disciplines, prompting both skepticism and curiosity in the public sphere.
