Sarah Zvidza, offered provincial hero status, was laid to rest.

The freedom fighter who recently died was offered provincial hero status.

Cde Sarah Zvidza, who died recently, has been laid to rest at Mashonaland West provincial Heroes’ Acre in Chinhoyi.

After playing a pivotal role within her home, community, and country, the late Zvidza, who was 93, was a political activist and a good adviser to others.

Addressing mourners at the Chinhoyi shrine, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution described the late Zvidza as a daughter of the soil who dedicated her life to setting Zimbabwe free and had always been patriotic.

“We are here today celebrating the life of Cde Sarah Zvidza, who was born on January 20, 1931, and grew up in Esigodini (Matabeleland South Province).

Just like any other child, she went to primary and secondary school, and at tertiary level, she did nursing briefly and then switched to train as a teacher. ” She finally settled in Makonde, Kenzamba, where she was active in clubs, helping and teaching women various craft activities.

 During the liberation struggle, she was very active, keeping and feeding the comrades until cease fire, and in post-independence, she was employed by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs as a women advisor,” she said.

She added that the late Zvidza was later promoted as Community Development Officer in Chinhoyi, continued as a Zanu PF activist, and worked with various women, including those from the office of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs with the likes of Mai Joyce Mujuru and the late Amai Sally Mugabe.

Mashonaland West War Veterans’ Association chairperson Muwoni also admired the good work done by Zvidza, which saw her leave a legacy for her family and the entire community.

Joyce Lamondi, Zvidza’s daughter and the family’s spokesperson, said her mother was a mother figure who was unreplaceable, a role model, and a unifier.

“My mother was a good listener and adviser, a fountain of everything. She taught us to be God-fearing, to be smart, and how to conduct ourselves as women; hence, all  six of us managed to have our homes, and we all married.

. “Our mother was a hard worker, and she taught us to work hard, and despite her acronyms, she would always respect her husband,” she said.

She added that they had lost a pillar of strength, and the gap she has left is irreplaceable as she was a jack of all trades. The late Zvidza is survived by six children and 39 grandchildren.
