Media personality and renowned chef Somizi Mhlongo has broken his silence on his friendship with former Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi.
Addressing the matter on the latest episode of his reality series, ‘Living the Dream with Somizi,’ he expressed his feelings after Unathi publicly announced the end of their friendship.
In a conversation with his friend Vusi Nova, Somizi disclosed that he was taken aback and disheartened by the way Unathi terminated their relationship.
Vusi inquired about a specific lady, prompting Somizi’s response: “Honestly, I was shocked, I was disappointed, but it is what it is. Sometimes when people show you who they are, you leave them.”
He went on to share, “Someone that I thought we were okay with went public.”
Adding to his sentiments, Somizi stated, “The devil does not want to see me prosper. This day has been a day and a half.”
Expressing his decision, Somizi asserted that he has no intention of speaking to Unathi ever again and emphasized that he doesn’t want her to even look at him. He emphasized his commitment to protecting his peace and clarified that if he finds himself working alongside her, he will act professionally.
“If I have to go work with her, in the same space with her, it’s not in my nature to say it’s either me or somebody else. I’m not going to take bread away from somebody who feeds her kids and family and stuff. I’m going to make sure my space and peace are protected, one. I never want to talk to her again, I never want to speak to her again.
I will be professional. Being professional doesn’t mean that when she says something, I must agree with her… but I’m going to make it clear before I even start that this person must never even look at me,” he declared.
The rift between Somizi and Unathi began when Unathi declared she wouldn’t allow people to listen to R&B singer R. Kelly due to his sexual abuse conviction. A follower criticized her for double standards, pointing out her friendship with Somizi, who was facing abuse allegations from his estranged husband Mohale Motaung at the time.
Responding to the follower, Unathi asserted that she was not friends with Somizi and revealed that she had unfollowed him on social media, stating, “Who said they are my friends?”
