Recent speculation about the return of Hungani Ndlovu, affectionately known as Romeo on Scandal, has been dismissed by the show’s producer, Sanele Zulu. Reports suggested that Ndlovu was set to make a comeback to the popular television series, but Zulu has refuted these claims.
Zulu stated, “Any rumors regarding Hungani Ndlovu either resigning or returning to Scandal due to salary issues are false. Last year, Hungani requested to go on leave for personal reasons, which have no bearing on Scandal whatsoever. Our relationship with Hungani has always been extremely positive and remains so until this day.”
Contrary to reports that Ndlovu was offered a substantial sum to rejoin the show, Zulu clarified, “Guess who’s returning to Scandal sooner than we expected? The scandal has officially offered Hungani Ndlovu R85,000 to R100,000 to return to the show, making him one of the highest-paid actors in SA.”
This isn’t the first time rumors about Ndlovu’s status on the show have surfaced. The production denied similar claims twice last year, asserting a positive relationship between Scandal and Ndlovu.
Ndlovu’s departure from Scandal last year surprised many, with fans still expressing a desire for his return. Reports suggest that Ndlovu felt targeted by some individuals within the production, leading to his decision to resign from ETV’s leading show.
Addressing the alleged backstage feud with co-star Masasa Mbangeni, who played Thembeka, the producers released a statement, saying, “The channel, together with Orche Media, refuse the claims that Hungani was fired for bad behavior on the show, nor had his character, Romeo, been killed off. We have the highest regard for Hungani’s professionalism and humility as an artist. He has always behaved with the utmost respect towards his employers and colleagues.”
Despite the ongoing speculation, Scandal continues to maintain its position as the third most-watched show in South Africa, with 4.6 million views in December, following Skeem Saam with 4.4 million views.
