Senzo Meyiwa’s mother finally speaks out

In a significant turn of events, the family of the late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, has placed its collective hopes in the hands of the court, seeking justice and closure regarding the mysterious circumstances surrounding his murder.

This development unfolded during the trial at the North Gauteng High Court on Wednesday, 24 January, where the lead investigating officer, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, made startling revelations, suggesting that Senzo’s then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, allegedly orchestrated the hit.

Senzo Meyiwa’s tragic death, initially attributed to a botched robbery in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, in 2014, has remained a lingering question for his family, who have tirelessly sought answers.

Ntombifuthi Meyiwa, Senzo’s mother, conveyed the family’s reliance on the court proceedings to substantiate the truth behind the murder.

She underscored the pivotal role of the court in establishing facts and providing the closure the family has been fervently pursuing.

“Learning that Kelly Khumalo was implicated is significant, but its impact is limited if not proven in court,” said Ntombifuthi Meyiwa.

Despite the prolonged duration of the case, she remains hopeful that justice will ultimately prevail, bringing an end to the protracted investigation.

“While it has taken a considerable amount of time, we still maintain hope that justice will prevail, bringing closure.

We have discussed this case extensively, and now, our singular desire is justice and closure,” she asserted, reflecting the family’s unwavering commitment to seeking the truth.

The absence of closure has been a prolonged struggle for Senzo Meyiwa’s family, with his father, Samuel Meyiwa, actively advocating for justice until his passing in 2019.

Ntombifuthi Meyiwa expressed the family’s collective hope for justice for Senzo, highlighting the critical need for closure.

“We fervently anticipate that the court will conclusively determine who was behind Senzo Meyiwa’s murder.

After discussing this case for an extended period, our singular aspiration is now justice and closure,” she reiterated, emphasizing the family’s deep desire for a resolution while she is still alive.

As the court proceedings unfold, the Meyiwa family remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, eagerly anticipating the resolution of a case that has haunted them for far too long.
