Former Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius, convicted in 2013 for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, may soon be released from prison pending a favorable outcome in his upcoming parole hearing this week.
Scheduled for Friday, November 24, the 36-year-old athlete will present his case before a panel of experts who will assess whether he qualifies for early release. Pistorius has been serving a 13-year and five-month sentence for the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, a crime he claimed was a result of mistaking her for an intruder.
In October, the Constitutional Court supported Pistorius’s argument that he had met the eligibility criteria for parole since March 2023, completing half of his sentence. His lawyer, Conrad Dormehl, expressed confidence in Pistorius’s chances of parole approval during the upcoming hearing.
However, Dormehl acknowledged that several factors could influence the parole decision, including submissions from the victims, the offender, and other relevant sources. The parole board will also consider conditions such as the release date and any corrective measures.

June, still grieving the recent loss of her husband, Barry, has not confirmed her attendance at the parole hearing as she did in the past.
