Is Skeem Saam In Trouble?
Is Skeem Saam facing a crisis? Surprisingly, one of South Africa’s beloved television shows has experienced a significant dip in viewership numbers, losing nearly a million viewers. Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela reported this alarming decline.
According to Mphela’s post, Skeem Saam witnessed a staggering drop of 800,000 viewers in the last two months. In September, the drama garnered 6.72 million viewers, which plummeted to 5.9 million viewers in October.
While fluctuations in viewership are not uncommon for television shows, it’s anticipated that the numbers might recover this month.
Despite the recent dip in viewership, Skeem Saam remains a staple in South African television. Created by Winnie Serite, the soapie has been airing on SABC since 2011. Set in Turfloop, Limpopo, and Johannesburg, the show follows the lives of residents navigating everyday challenges and pursuing success. Skeem Saam is credited as the first show to give Generations a real competition in the television landscape.
