Sonia Mbele chronic illness

Real Housewives of South Africa director Sonia Mbele recently made headlines after being hospitalized for two weeks due to exhaustion. Speaking to Zimoja, the former Generations actress disclosed that she is grappling with an autoimmune disease.

Mbele, who is known for her role in the popular reality show, shared that she received the diagnosis a few months ago, just days before the launch of the third season of Real Housewives of Johannesburg (RHOJ).

Initially attributing her fatigue to general tiredness, additional tests revealed that Mbele was dealing with chronic anemia. Anemia occurs when the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to transport oxygen to organs, leading to symptoms such as fatigue and weakness.

The actress is now undergoing treatment for iron deficiency and has made significant adjustments to her diet, including abstaining from alcohol and incorporating iron-rich foods. To ensure an adequate iron supply, she also revealed that she receives regular drips.

Despite facing health challenges, Mbele has not been immune to legal troubles. Reports surfaced about her missing court appearances twice due to illness, but she finally appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on October 20.

The charges against Mbele and her fellow directors of Real Housewives of South Africa (Pty) Ltd—Yolisa Gqunta and Rebone Sesing—involved 42 counts of not filing company income tax from 2019 to 2022, neglecting VAT returns from 2020 to 2022, and failing to submit Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) from 2020 to 2022.

In an unexpected turn, the charges were withdrawn, and an admission of guilt was submitted, accompanied by a payment of R41,000. The admission of guilt statement read, “I, ‘The Real Housewives of South Africa(Pty) with Reg No: 2017/413908/07, hereby admit guilt to the charges specified in Counts 1 to 41, as mentioned in the attached charge sheet, and tender the admission of guilt fine referred to in the charge sheet.”

Sonia Mbele’s recent struggles with health and legal matters underscore the challenges she has faced in recent times, both in her professional and personal life. As she navigates these difficulties, the public remains attentive to her journey and the developments surrounding her health and legal proceedings.
