Beyonce responds after her daughter, Blue Ivy was seriously attacked for what she did on stage

Blue Ivy Carter has proven that international stardom is not only in her blood, but she is a bearer of that power in her own right.

On the young superstar’s 12th birthday, here are 12 top Blue Ivy moments from throughout the years.

• Blue Ivy was born Jan. 7, 2012, in New York City. She is the first child of music icons Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

• But Beyoncé first introduced Blue Ivy to the world onstage at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Beyoncé performed her hit “Love on Top” before rubbing her belly.
• Two days after she was born, Time magazine deemed Blue Ivy the “most famous baby in the world.”

• Blue Ivy became the youngest person ever to land on a Billboard chart after her dad, Jay-Z, featured her on his track “Glory” in January 2012. Baby Blue could be heard groaning and crying on the song.
• In 2019, Blue Ivy was featured on Beyoncé’s song “Brown Skin Girl” and in the accompanying music video. This feature earned young Blue a list of accolades.

• Blue Ivy became the youngest person to receive a BET Award, after winning the Her Award for “Brown Skin Girl.”
• She also became the youngest winner of an MTV Video Music Award after winning in the best cinematography category for the song’s music video.

• At 9 years old, Blue Ivy became the second youngest person ever to win a Grammy when “Brown Skin Girl” won the best music video award.
• For the same track, Blue Ivy received the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the Soul Train Awards, and outstanding duo, group or collaboration at the NAACP Image Awards.

• In 2020, she narrated Mathew A. Cherry’s book “Hair Love” about a Black dad doing his daughter’s hair for the first time.
• At the age of 10, Blue Ivy performed at the 94th Academy Awards amongst dancers during her mother’s performance of “Be Alive.” She received a lot of praise for her moves. 

• Most recently, Blue Ivy showed off her star power as she hit the stage throughout 2023 for her mom’s highly acclaimed Renaissance World Tour, dancing to “My Power” and “Black Parade.”

Not even Blue Ivy is immune to internet commentary.

In her new concert film, Beyoncé revealed that after her older daughter joined her onstage for several of her Renaissance World Tour stops this summer, the 11-year-old was affected by online critiques of her dancing.

The “Love on Top” singer, 42, shared that Blue Ivy read negative comments about her dancing after her first surprise appearance onstage in Paris in May.

She said that Blue Ivy — whom she shares with husband JAY-Z — was determined to prove any naysayers wrong and devoted herself to working even harder on her dancing.

Beyoncé also admitted that the notion of her daughter joining her onstage at all was not something she was particularly keen on.

Originally, the idea was that Blue Ivy would make just one onstage appearance, and even that wasn’t a plan that the singer was exactly thrilled about. She said in the film that performing in front of thousands was no place for an 11-year-old.

Beyoncé said she almost passed out the first time her daughter joined her onstage.

Of the early conversations, Beyoncé recalled in the film, “She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no,” per The New York Times.

Blue Ivy on negative comments

The improvement that Blue Ivy showed throughout the several months that she toured alongside her pop star mom did not go unnoticed by fans. In September, a compilation on TikTok compared her dancing at her first show, when she was quite timid with the moves, to how confident she appeared during a later show in Houston.

“Seeing her confidence grow throughout this tour has been such a treat,” one user commented on the video.

“Watching her confidence grow throughout the tour has made me so proud! She’s improved so much🥹🥲,” another fan said.

Blue Ivy’s grandma, Tina Knowles-Lawson, told PEOPLE in July that her ganddaughter’s confidence had soared “to the sky” since her first performance.

“She is 11 years old, and she had one week to prepare, and she’s just getting better and better,” said Knowles-Lawson, 69. “So I’m the proud grandma, always.”

She joked, “This is a heels family. You’re trained early to walk in heels,” before adding of Blue Ivy, “She’s having the time of her life, and I couldn’t be more proud of her because she really worked hard.”

JAY-Z, 53, is gushing with pride, too. He told Gayle King on CBS Mornings last month, “I still get goosebumps seeing her walk onstage.”

“She’s been born into a life she didn’t ask for. So since she was born, she’s been in scrutiny and the public eye and everyone having an opinion of even a little girl, how she keeps her hair,” he said. “So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power, and the song is called ‘My Power,’ you can’t write a better script.”
